While looking for gym space, sponsors and announcement videos as well as hanging up locker signs, Goalball Club will host and participate in the Dining in the Dark event on Dec. 7 at Buffalo Wild Wings. All members will meet outside of the restaurant at 6 p.m.
Dave Romano, Goalball Club sponsor and Blind and Low Vision teacher, said, “We’ve done one two years ago. It was a lot of fun. It was a good time. I’m excited to do it again.”
“(This year) we are gonna be ordering different kinds of wings. (The members) wanna do this nasty trick of ordering a ghost pepper wing for each basket,” Allyson Lafon, president of Goalball Club and junior, said.
Two years ago, Goalball Club hosted this event at Romano’s Macaroni Grill, an Italian restaurant. According to Romano, there were many struggles with this particular event, specifically because most Italian food items are not finger foods.
“Some of the struggles people had were like finding the drink, silverware, and where things were on the plate. Talking to each other was funny because when we were passing each other stuff, we couldn’t pass it across the table without knocking over anyone’s drink, so we found someone’s hand up in the air and gave it to them. It looked really odd,” Romano said. “We’re gonna see how Dining in the Dark goes, and then we’ll talk about big fundraisers. (But) I think definitely having one with just (members) makes sense; the real fun is being under the blindfold even though watching can be funny too.”
