There have been a few new changes dealing with security implemented for this school year. Most importantly, Door 21, which is the entrance at the back of the school by the pool area, is now closed during the school day.
According to Assistant Principal Doug Bird, Door 21, along with Doors 1, 4 and 13, were all open for access during school hours last year. He said that the reason for closing Door 21 this year is for security purposes.
“Door 21 is located at somewhat of a secluded area of the building,” he said, “which makes it hard to secure and maintain supervision throughout the day.”
In addition to locking Door 21, Bird said this school has strengthened other areas of security as well.
“Over the summer, we installed new cameras in various blind spots in the school,” he said.
Bird also said these changes to the security measures are all to ensure the safety of everyone at this school.
He said, “These new measures will continue to help us to maintain a safe atmosphere for all our teachers and students so that they don’t have to worry about their safety and can concentrate instead on learning.”
