The week of Oct. 19, DECA students will be working on their written projects and business plans for competitions. Seniors in DECA are required to participate on at least the district level competitions on Jan. 16; however, the other classes are not required to. The written projects can be used as material at these competitions.
According to Janice Brown, DECA sponsor and business teacher, written projects involve some sort of research. Topics submitted can include business plans, advertisement campaigns or market research. At competitions, students will present their topics to a panel of judges.
“For the most part, [students] should all know their topics in the next two weeks or they are already working on them,” Brown said.
Alexandra “Alex” Chandler, senior and DECA class representative, said seminar classes are given time in class to work on their projects. However, other classes, such as the co-operative classes work on projects outside of class.
“I’m working on a fashion merchandise promotional plan and it’s about 15 pages about a store,” Chandler said.
DECA is also currently preparing for Santa’s Secret Shop, which begins Nov. 30. According to Chandler, the students are divided into four teams that take care of different divisions of the business. By Sally Bae <[email protected]>
