A guard member laughs as she catches her rifle while performing at the Bands of America (BOA) Grand National Championships. As the guard continues into its season, regional and state competitions are fast approaching. Guard director Rosie Queen said she anticipates a great season for the team.
Over the next few weeks, the Winter Guard is set to perform at various high schools across Indiana as they advance towards the Winter Guard International (WGI) State Finals at Center Grove High School on March 16. According to guard director Rosie Queen, the three teams will perform at IHSCGA State Preliminaries before they advance to the next round.
“This is the guard schedule for the next few weeks…JV Guard performs at Center Grove, A’ Guard and World Guard performs at Decatur Central,” Queen said via email.
In addition to this schedule of performances, the guard also plans on attending the WGI Cincinnati Regional competition, which is set to take place on March 22-24.
Kristina “Krissy” Sass, guard member and sophomore, said the team was successful last year at the state level as well as at the regional competition.
“I know last year we were very successful…with each run getting significantly better and our finals run being our best of the season,” Sass said.
She added that she was really just looking forward to the connection that the competitions bring to the team.
“For the returning members I think we’re looking to get back to the group connection and success we found last year at the competition,” she said. By Michelle Lu
