Carmel Clay Public Library (CCPL) will host a creative writing club geared towards students in high school. This event will occur on Nov. 7 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in the Teens Program Room at the library’s main branch.
Karen Steinberger, Teen Services Librarian at CCPL, said this event is entirely student led.
“The club is called ‘Inklings,’ and they do everything related to creative writing,” she said. “They brainstorm ideas, give and get feedback on writing, and get inspired.”
Senior Emily Lovik said she intends on attending the event.
“I have been getting more into writing, and this is a great opportunity to sort of expand my horizons when writing,” she said. “I didn’t get a chance to take the creative writing class at the high school, so this is a way to get that education, even if it is just from my peers.”
Senior Chris Tichindilean said he agrees with Lovik, and said he has trouble brainstorming creative ideas.
“With things like college supplemental essays, you really have to branch out and write creatively and truly,” he said. “I wish I had discovered this club earlier; I feel like it’s the kind of club that so many people could use, even if they don’t realize it. Creative writing is a really important skill.”
