Kids’ Corner, a class where seniors can get firsthand experience teaching preschool age kids, is preparing for the Indianapolis Children’s Choir (ICC) to come and teach kids about music. Paige Kelsch, a member of Kids’ Corner and senior, said, “I’m really into choir and music, and I think it’s so great that we can introduce music to kids at such a young age.”
ICC will start coming every Thursday that the kids have class, but the seniors and Kids’ Corner teacher Mrs. Kimberly Lenzo have plenty of activities planned for the rest of the week. “Each week has a theme, and this upcoming week is all about the beach and ocean. One of the activities is whether objects float or sink, and goldfish will be one of the snacks,” explains Lenzo. Kelsch adds beach hopscotch and fishing matching games to the list.
The seniors will also be putting together a weekly newsletter for the preschoolers to bring home to their parents. Kelsch says that the newsletter is a great way not only to keep the parents informed, but also to tell parents how to connect what the kids learn at school to their life at home.
