On Nov. 19 the German Club plans to go downtown to hear the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO) perform music by German composers. According to Theresa Lipp, German Club president and senior, the cost is $10 and all members interested in going should turn their money in to German Club sponsor, Laura King, by Nov. 3.
During this event students will meet after school at 4 p.m. and take a bus downtown to the Circle Center Mall. “We’ll stay at the Circle Center Mall for about two hours where you can eat and shop or do whatever and then afterwards the bus will take us to the concert,” Lipp said.
Before the concert begins, a member of the orchestra will preview the concert for the German Club. “Someone from the orchestra will talk to us and point out interesting things we should look for and basically give us background on pieces they’re going to be playing,” Lipp said.
According to King this event is part of a special promotion the ISO puts on in which, at a discounted rate; foreign language clubs get a chance to hear pieces by composers in their language of study. According to the ISO website the German Club night is already sold out.
In addition the German Club is scheduled to have an executive board meeting Nov. 9 to finalize plans for the ISO event and begin discussion about the annual Chicago trip. By Meredith Boyd <[email protected]>
