After a delay due to the weather, the vocational building trades class plans to finish the windows for its house this week. The windows were delivered on Nov. 1, but the class didn’t start them until a few days later on Nov. 4, according to senior Cory Noe. The class’ schedule was pushed back because it wasn’t finished with the house wrap, a thin wind and moisture barrier.
“We had some pretty strong winds (two weeks ago), which made putting up the paper – like ‘cause the house wrap’s like a sheet – very difficult to put up with winds,” Noe said.
According to Noe, there will be around 23 windows, and he hopes the class will finish all of them by Nov. 10.
Next on schedule, John Coghlan, vocational building trades instructor, said he plans to wrap up framing the house in order to begin heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical rough-ins. He also wants the shingles on the roof by Thanksgiving break. According to Coghlan, both the weather and class productiveness will determine whether or not the class will achieve its current goals, and it is difficult to tell how long it will take to do everything.
Noe said, “I think we have most of the stuff that’s going to be delivered to us has already been delivered, like windows and all of the wood and everything else, so we should be moving at our own pace after this.” By Rochelle Brual
