Members of the Fantasy Sports Club are finishing up the fantasy football season, according to Christopher Simmons, club co-president and senior. The presidents, he said, are also discussing participation in fantasy basketball in the near future.
With only a few weeks left in the football season, club sponsor Mike Meyer said participants are readying for the play-offs.
“Everybody’s just getting their final rosters lined up,” Meyer said.
While fantasy football is “up and running,” according to Simmons, the presidents have yet to decide when they will start fantasy basketball. The season started a few weeks ago, Simmons said, but they’re “not in a rush.”
“We weren’t worried about trying to catch (fantasy basketball) at the beginning,” Simmons said. “It’s not a, like, week-by-week thing (where) you have to be ready. You can just kind of, like, pick up and start wherever.”
Still, Simmons said they would start basketball soon. They probably have enough interest from club members, he said, and may have to go on the video announcements.
According to Meyer, the big events next semester will be the NCAA basketball tournament and fantasy baseball. They may have a second call-out for baseball, Meyer said, later in the spring.
When it comes to participation in other fantasy sports, Meyer said, the interest levels of club members determine if the club takes part. While he would have liked to see fantasy hockey and golf this year, Meyer said there wasn’t enough interest.
According to Simmons, “We’re just going to try and get out to the Carmel High School student body (and) see what they want. Whatever they want, we’ll do that.” By Hafsa Razi <[email protected]>
