Students for Education, a club dedicated to tutoring impoverished and homeless children in the Indianapolis area, plans to have a meeting in the coming weeks about its activities for the rest of the semester. Ivy Yan, club president and senior, said the meeting will focus on preparing the club for the next school year.
“Since all of the officers are seniors, we want to prepare for a smooth transition to next year when the club has new officers,” Yan said. “This meeting will mostly be about explaining to club members and especially future officers about how to carry on after we’re gone, but we’re also going to discuss our last few events for this year.”
In addition, Yan said the club is working on its remaining activities for this semester. Yan said the group plans to continue traditions from previous years with various fundraisers.
“We’ll be doing the online fundraiser where we ask our friends and families to donate to help School on Wheels in a few weeks,” Yan said. “There’s also Houndstock at the end of the year, and we’re looking forward to that too.”
According to club sponsor Sherri Pankratz, the club is organized almost entirely by students.
“I leave most of the day-to-day functions of the club to the students,” Pankratz said.
As for the end of her work with Students for Education, Yan said she is happy with all the club has accomplished in the years she has been a part of it.
“It’s sad that we officers have to move on, but I know we’ve left the club in capable hands,” Yan said. “We’ve got a working system in place, so I’m sure next year’s officers will do a great job.” By Henry Zhu <[email protected]>
