The three student winners of the Scholastic Art Competition are to be recognized at a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York. The students’ work will be displayed at a national exhibit in New York from June 1 to 19. Art department chairperson Jen Davis said she is excited for her student Connor Lynch who is one of the three finalists.
“A few years ago I had a student win,” Davis said. “It was held in D.C. that year. It was crazy; there were students from all over the United States there.”
Senior Connor Lynch entered a self-portrait in pastel titled “Serenity.” He said he received two scholarships for his work.
“There are four categories: Gold Portfolio, Silver Portfolio, Gold Individual and Silver Individual,” Lynch said. “They tell us ahead of time what we won. I won the Silver Individual.” Lynch entered the Scholastic Art Competition last year and received Gold Individual. He said he is excited to go to the New York ceremony.
