The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is anticipating one of its most important events of the year, the Day of Silence, which takes place after spring break on April 15, according to club sponsor Jeremy Horner.
In addition, the GSA will be putting diversity statements in teachers’ mailboxes for them to display in their rooms, Horner said.
“It’s very common that schools have (diversity statements), but they are seldom seen and often never read,” Horner said.
According to Horner, a diversity statement is an idea that encompasses all diversity, showing that the school is tolerant of all diversities, in an attempt to create a general supportive community for those who have different beliefs.
“Otherwise, we are winding down the year, with a guest speaker still to come. After the Day of Silence, we will start looking at ideas for next year,” Horner said.
GSA is in essence a forum group in which members can discuss recent news and social norms.
“The Gay-Straight Alliance promotes and markets a safe environment for people who have different sexual orientations. People should join, because it’s for a really good cause,” Gracie “Grace” Woerner, club president and junior, said. By Tony Tan <[email protected]>
