CHS is introducing School Gate Guardian this semester in order to improve overall school security. According to Assistant Principal Doug Bird, the School Gate Guardian system is currently under construction and will be put into place at the three main entrances at CHS.
At the main doors to the school, the double doors will lead into the main office, where a desk will be set up with equipment to scan the visitor’s driver’s license. According to Bird, after the system scans a drivers license, it runs a background check on the visitor before printing out a pass.
“School Gate Guardian will improve security here, and it’ll make it safer for staff and students,” Bird said.
CHS is the last of schools in the district to install School Gate Guardian. All of the elementary and middle schools have already installed the system.
“I think that it will help school security, and make it safer for all of us,” junior Nick Naum said. “I use those doors a lot, and I think the differences will help Carmel.”
The installation of the School Gate Guardian system is not in response to any incident, but is meant to improve the overall security of the school by utilizing new technology. According to Bird, the changes to school security should make for an increased comfort level for both staff and students.
