Chess Club members continue to prepare for the State tournament that will take place in Terre Haute on March 24, according to club sponsor Margaret Winans.
The two teams that have been chosen to participate in the tournament will travel to Terre Haute to compete. According to officer and senior Brian McDonald, the club members are unsure how many teams will compete but many high schools have sent teams in the past.
“We have done this tournament many times. Last year we got second (place),” McDonald said via email.
The date for the Indiana State Chess Association (ISCA) tournament the club plans on hosting at Carmel is still uncertain.
“It all depends on the date the ISCA comes up with,” McDonald said.
All students are encouraged to participate in the ISCA tournament.
“If anyone is interesting (in participating), they should talk to Brian McDonald, (officer and sophomore) Andrew Kluttz, or myself,” officer and sophomore Sameer Manchanda said.
“I think we will definitely going to get first place (in the tournament),” Manchanda said.
“It’s going to be a Carmel sweep all around,” Matt McDonald, freshman and club member said.
