Carmel Dads’ Club’s (CDC) newest spring sport, 7-on-7 aerial football, is reaching its registration deadline. CDC president Jack Beery described the sport as “essentially touch football.” Beery said there is not a definite deadline, as the registration for 7-on-7 aerial football started late, so the deadline is flexible. The signup will be ending sometime soon, Beery said.
“I’m anxious to see how it goes this spring,” Beery said. CDC only budgeted for about 100 participants in its new touch football program, but sign-up numbers have shown that it has been a huge success, reaching over 250 participants. He attributes 7-on-7 aerial football’s popularity to the rising popularity of the Indianapolis Colts and the recent CHS state championship win.
Jared Nematollahi, freshman and CDC basketball player, said he commends CDC on adding toucch football as a new youth sport.
He said, “Touch football is a good idea because it allows people [to play] who don’t like physical contact, but [who] still like to play football.”
