On Sept. 5, all juniors are scheduled to meet with their counselors during SRT. This meeting, though overviews the junior year, is used mainly to emphasize three main points, the PSAT, SAT/ACT and the college search, counselor Stephanie Aikins said.
Junior George Gemelas said, “I think that it is beneficial for the students to be educated on what is necessary to be done because it is one of the few sources that we can learn from.”
Though a lot of the information is generic, Gemelas said, one can find some good resources and websites.
“None of this stuff is new; we’ve certainly been talking about it or getting the word out for years,” Aikins said, “but I do think that students have a tendency to absorb information a little bit better when it’s particularly relevant to them.”
Although most of the information was the same as the previous years, Aikins also said that a few changes were made. “One of the big changes is that we’re trying to get the word out that we have started a college information Twitter account and Facebook account,” Aikins said. “It’s a better, easier, more current way to distribute information to [the students].”
Gemelas also pointed at three attributes that he said would help students with their junior years. “Number one would be efficiency,” he said. “Number two would be knowing what you have and being able to use it in the most effective way. The third would be focus.”
