After a summer of intense rehearsal, the CHS color guard prepares for its first competition, which will take place on Sept. 22 at Avon.
According to Callie Daet, head of dance and junior, the guard has been working throughout June and July. “Over the summer, we do a lot of technique. We’ve been learning our show. Right now, we’re in the process of finishing our second movement. We have four,” she said.
The guard now practices on Gold days from 6:30 to 9 a.m., Tuesdays from 6 to 8:15 p.m., Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3:45 to 6 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. “We just basically learn the whole show and go through dance technique, flag, rifle, saber,” Daet said.
Whitney Stone, teacher of flags and dance, said that she anticipates a good year. “I think we’re farther than they usually have been in past years as far as learning the show, so that’s positive, and it’s a challenging show. I think it’s going to be a really interesting show for the audience to watch,” she said.
Daet said that she is looking forward to the upcoming season. “I’m kind of nervous since I open up the show, but I know I’ll be good. I love performing,” she said.
