The marching band and color guard earned a victory at the BOA Grand National Championships on Nov. 11, taking first place to Broken Arrow High School’s second by a margin of only 0.15 points, according to Bands of America.
Callie Daet, one of the leaders in guard and junior, said she is proud of everyone involved.
“It was an amazing performance. I was literally speechless and in tears after it,” she said.
Daet said she believed the guard would be in the top two or three at the competition due to the amount of work that members put in throughout the season.
“(I) practiced like I wanted to perform,” she said.
Jenna Voris, guard member and junior, said although she thought she would do well, she tried not to focus on the competition too much while she was performing.
“I went into Nationals really confident that we had a shot at the whole thing,” she said. “I don’t like to think about winning a lot, so during the competition I kind of forgot about everything that people had been telling us about winning and focused on the show, because that’s the most important part.”
In the meantime, members of the guard are looking ahead to what comes in the future: the winter guard season and Winter Guard International championships in April.
Voris siad, “I have no doubt that we will be fabulous! All of the girls are super hard workers and so dedicated to this activity.”
