As many other students are busily choosing their valentine, Biology Club members have no time for distraction. Every member has been preparing for their first test, the Biology Olympiad. The test is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2013. “We’ve all been working so hard. I believe we all will be successful on the test later this month,” Luke Obrique, club member and freshman, said.
Members of the club meet every other blue Monday to compare answers and prepare for competitions. Obrique joined the club to not only get a head start on biology, but to one day have a better chance of getting into an Ivy League school. He hopes to one day receive national recognition and various competitions throughout the year are meant to help him achieve success. “Two hours of study time seems plenty. I don’t want to become overwhelmed,” Obrique said.
Biology Club sponsor Cindy Radaker said she was impressed with each member. “Studying and interpreting many of these concepts individually aren’t the easiest or most enjoyable tasks to do,” she said. “I am proud to say many of them will have the opportunity to reach nationally ranked levels, something very few will have on their transcripts. I am impressed with the amount of motivation each one of them has.”
