In the final week before the preschoolers arrive, the seniors in Kids’ Corner are putting the finishing touches on their lesson plans, according to Kids’ Corner teacher Kimberly Lenzo. She said in addition to coming up with activities, the seniors have to learn how to make sure the whole day flows and is comprehensive. They also have to meet the Indiana standards for a preschool class. Hannah Suda, Kids’ Corner member and senior, has her first rotation between Kids’ Corner, Edu-Care and Early Childhood here at the school with the Kids’ Corner. She said she is most excited for Kids’ Corner because she wants to teach this age of kids when she is older.
She said, “I’m really excited to meet the kids so I can get a better idea on how to work with kids to see if this is what I really want to do.”
According to Suda, the theme for the first week is Dr. Seuss, but while some of the seniors are teaching at Kids’ Corner, others will be at Edu-Care and Early Childhood at the middle and elementary schools.
Lenzo said this semester’s group of seniors works well together and encourage each other’s specific talents. She said this support will help them once they actually start teaching.
