UNICEF plans to participate in the Halloween trick-or-treat event on Oct. 31, according to co-president and junior Cynthia Wu. During this event, club members collect donations instead of candy.
According to club sponsor Jill Noel, donation boxes are sent to the club from the UNICEF parent organization.
Although the date for the next meeting has not been decided, Wu said the club plans to hold a meeting sometime next week to pass out donation boxes to club members. According to Wu, nonmembers are also welcome to collect donations for the club.
Wu said, “I hope that people will give some of their time to collect donations on Halloween night, because this is beneficial on a bigger level.”
Wu said Key Club will also participate in the trick-or-treat event this year.
“Key Club has (participated) in the past and they brought it back this year, but our events are kind of separate, even though it’s the same thing,” Wu said.
Noel said the money from various events, including the trick-or-treating and the International Fair in November, is compiled and sent to the parent organization at the end of the year.
According to UNICEF’s website, its focus areas for the past couple years include child survival and development, education and gender equality.
Wu said, “As always, our goal is to raise money for children around the world who need it.”
