The mentors of K-8 Mentoring will begin taking their kids out on private outings, or outings that do not involve the other mentors. According to sponsor Robin Pletcher, these outings will only be between the mentors and the kids that they mentor.
Pletcher said that the kids have fully adjusted to their mentors, which is why they are comfortable with the outings.
“It’s their fourth or fifth week with the kids, so (the mentors and kids) are developing that relationship,” she said.
Mentor and senior Anthony “Tony” Giannini said he plans to take his kids as well. “(My relationship with my kids) is getting so much better,” Giannini said. Due to this closer relationship, Giannini said that he plans on taking his kids out for lunch and then a movie. Other mentors are taking their kids to various events.
Giannini is building a closer bond with his kids and has also figured out how to spend each moment with them. “Cards and Legos are doing the trick right now and some of the kids are opening up about what’s happening in their families so it’s going really well,” Giannini said.
