The CHS aquatics center will host the Carmel Swim Club Triathlon on April 27. In order to help prospective triathletes prepare for the event, the aquatics center will have triathlon training clinics available in February and March.
Aquatics center director Kinsey Wallace said the clinics are targeted towards people who have never participated in the triathlon before and want to get a sense of what the swimming portion will be like. According to Wallace, people of every skill level are able to attend the clinics.
“Because we’re an indoor pool, people who don’t know how to swim will sign up for our triathlon because they can walk on the bottom the whole time,” Wallace said. “We will have the clinics for those kinds of people too.”
Lifeguard and senior Lili Arroyo said she encourages people to participate in the clinics and ultimately in the triathlon. “If you want to do the triathlon, go for it. I think it’s a really great experience,” Arroyo said.
The aquatics center will also be pushing back their free swim program. In this program, swimmers are able to print off a pass online to swim at the aquatics center completely free for two weeks. While this program usually takes place in January, because of recent weather shortening the amount of school time and, in turn, pool time available in the month, it will be pushed back to the first two weeks of March.
“There’s not really anything too different about it,” Wallace said. “It’s just that I’m doing it in March because of the weather.”
