On Feb. 21, the men’s basketball team traveled to Warren Central and won 66-52. Carmel’s regular season record is currently 17-1 and, with an 8-0 MIC record, can win the MIC championship for the third consecutive year if they defeat Center Grove on Feb. 24 at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
Head Coach Scott Heady said he’s proud of Carmel’s success this year and is looking to finish the season with an undefeated conference record. The last time the Greyhounds lost a MIC matchup was in Feb. 2012.
“The next game is extremely important because it’s a conference game and we have a chance to win the conference for a third straight year,” Heady said. “We haven’t lost a conference game since Feb. 2012. It’s been two years since we lost a conference game in the MIC conference. I think that’s a great accomplishment for our guys because it’s the best conference in Indiana. We’re looking to hopefully finish the conference undefeated.”
Guard and senior Michael Bruns agrees with Heady that the Center Grove matchup is a big opportunity to win the MIC championship. Bruns said that he is focusing for the end of the season and the IHSAA tournament.
“We have to take it on game at a time,” Bruns said. “Every game and every practice is an opportunity to get better.”
