After a 1-3 start to the season, the women’s volleyball team looks to rebound in the Mishawaka Invitational, which will take place on Aug. 29 at John Young Middle School on 1801 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
The doors will open at 8 a.m., and the matches will begin at 9 a.m.
Eight teams will compete in two brackets of four teams each. Carmel will face Muncie Central, Mishawaka Marian and Harrison in pool play. Other potential opponents include Mishawaka, Indianapolis Cathedral, Hammond and S.B. St. Joseph.
Varsity assistant coach Allyson Spuller said the tournament will be very competitive because four of the teams competing are ranked in the top 10 in the state. As of Aug. 27, the ranked teams are Muncie Central, Indianapolis Cathedral, Mishawaka Marian and Mishawaka.
Maggie Harbison, three-year starter and senior, said, “I am really looking forward to this tournament because the competition will be tough. In addition, our team will have a great time together when we spend the night in the hotel.”
The format of the tournament consists of each team playing four best-of-three matches. Champion and runner-up trophies will be awarded as well as an MVP of the tournament.
Spuller said, “Our outlook on the tournament is that we will play pretty well. If we just play our game and pass well, we can hang with the best of them.”
On Sept. 1, the team will host Center Grove. Spuller said Center Grove and Brebeuf will be the two toughest matches this season. Rueben Warshawsky <[email protected]>
