The women’s soccer team will travel to North Central on Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. for the IHSAA Semistate against Evansville Memorial after defeating Brebeuf Jesuit 2-1 on Oct. 15.
Brebeuf Jesuit scored midway through the first half to take a 1-0 lead, but junior Tori Doss scored just before halftime to even the score at 1-1. Doss scored again four minutes into the second half to give Carmel a 2-1 lead, a lead that they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.
Head Coach Frank Dixon said the team has made a habit of coming from behind to win games. “After missing numerous opportunities, shots off the crossbar and post, plus headers over the bar, we gave up a very good counter attack goal to Brebeuf and were down 1-0,” Dixon said via email. “The second half was a much different game as we tightened our defense, attacked off their turnovers and outshot the Braves 19 to 4.”
Junior Molly Pittman said the players are still hoping to continue their season. “We still have to prove our first in the state ranking,” Pittman said.
Carmel and Evansville Memorial did not meet during the regular season. The winner of this game will compete in the IHSAA Semistate Championship at 6 p.m. at North Central.
