On Sept. 22 the women’s golf team will compete in Regional at Smock Golf Course in Indianapolis. This match comes six days after the team finished second in Sectional. The top four members that played in the Sectional were sophomores Maggie Rees and Alyssa Cook and juniors Sophie Kelner and Makenzie Curtis. Head Coach Ken Kelly said that although the team finished second, he was satisfied with their performance.
“We have met our goals this far including our Sectional,” Kelly said. “We are over our small hump that we had in the beginning of the season, and now we can focus on our Regional.”
This week the team participated in a practice round, diverging from its usual schedule, and put a heavy focus on short game during its practices to prepare for the upcoming Regional.
Rees said the practices so far this week strengthen the team’s chances of playing well in its Regional.
“Lately we’ve been doing a lot of chipping and putting drills and really focusing on using our time wisely,” Rees said. “The chipping and putting drills will definitely allow us to lower our scores because that is the area we struggled in in our Sectional.”
If the team places high enough in Regional, the team will have a shot at State. The State tournament begins on Sept. 28.
