Zionsville defeated Carmel 1-0 in the first round of the Sectional tournament on Oct. 8 at Murray Stadium. Zionsville, ranked first in the state, beat Carmel for the second year in a row during the Sectional tournament. Last year the team was defeated during Sectional 2-0. Varsity player and junior Monica Dick along with her team were upset about the hard loss. “The hardest part about it is knowing our team worked so hard and that the season ended this early. Our seniors definitely deserved to go farther,” Dick said.
The team finished the season with twelve wins, two loses, and four ties. The team prepared for the Sectional game by team bonding events such as bonfires and dinners. Head coach, Frank Dixon, had the team rest, watch film, and have shorter practices. “We made them as ready as possible by making them comfortable and ready for the game,” Dixon said.
