The Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC), partnered with members of the Carmel City Council, will host the free music festival PorchFest on Sept. 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. The event will feature 43 different bands on 20 neighborhood porches in Downtown Carmel. Selections include a wide genre range from solo acoustics to electric ensembles. According to Leah Zukerman, vice president of expansion and senior, CMYC members will volunteer and set up the performances, as well as manage bike parking at the event.
“(PorchFest) is a chance for different bands to get their music out there and to get their name out there,” she said. “It’s completely free and I feel like we’re going to get a pretty good turnout, especially from adults but maybe from teenagers too.”
According to Natasha Crasta, CMYC event director and senior, members are also planning for the Tour De Carmel and Pumpkin Fest, a different take on the previous year’s event Fall Fest.
“Basically, in the subsequent meetings we will plan what we will do with these upcoming event,” Crasta said. “I hope they’ll turn out as well as our other big events such as High School Night.”
