Students looking to join Key Club should turn in their code of conduct forms and $15 in club dues at the meeting on Sept. 24. Students can also turn in club T-shirt order forms indicating their sizes and $8 for the shirt. According to sponsor Katie Kelly, club members will be able to wear the shirts to service opportunities.
“Sometimes, students don’t know what to wear to a volunteer event. Having a t-shirt for them to wear at an event will definitely eliminate some confusion, as well as help spread awareness for our club,” Kelly said.
Kelly said the first couple club meetings will serve to help new members learn the volunteering requirements, which call 20 hours of recorded community service. However, at future meetings, Key Club will offer volunteer service projects that count for hours. In the past, such projects included making blankets for hospitalized children, putting together care packages for the army and organizing lunch boxes for the needy in Indianapolis.
Olivia Zhang, Key Club member and junior, said she volunteered at an elementary school, where she did face painting for the children.
“We always do different things at the volunteering projects,” Zhang said. “It was always a good feeling to know you’re helping others out and you’re meeting new people.”
Key Club will hold its freshman office board elections in the second week in October. Students on the freshman board will help existing officers log hours and plan service projects for meetings. Freshman students who wish to apply for a board position should get a form from Room E229. Forms are also available online at the club website, and will be due on Sept. 24 to rooms A222 and E229, or the club meeting.
