On Oct. 1, the men’s tennis team defeated Guerin Catholic 4-1 during the Sectional, and they will now advance to the Regional on Oct. 6 and 7. The team will face Kokomo in the match.
If the Greyhounds continue to progress in the postseason, they are expected to face North Central on Oct. 16 during the Quarterfinal. Entering the playoffs, the Greyhounds were ranked the number one seed, with the North Central Panthers close behind at number two. For the past two years, Carmel has come head-to-head with North Central in the State Championships, but has fallen short both years.
Junior Ethan McAndrews said, “I think North Central as our biggest rival, you know number two in the state, it’s always kind of a big deal, it’s always really enjoyable, and fulfilling to beat them. I think the biggest goal we have is just to win State, regardless of who we play.”
While many of the team’s players agree that beating North Central and winning the State Championships are the biggest goals for the postseason, Head Coach Spencer Fields said that playing that game is about much more than winning to him. According to Fields, his ultimate goal is to help all of the players improve, and he said that their goals of beating North Central and winning the championship go hand-in-hand with that.
