According to co-sponsor of Intramural, Wesley Drew, they have just held their first call out meeting for the fall and are waiting to hear back from teams to make either intramural volleyball or ultimate frisbee a legit league. He said that the sponsors are hoping to get at least six teams for either sports and that they have high hopes, considering their call out meeting had a good turn out. Drew also said that they are planning to hold an intramural student council call out meeting soon for those who want to join.
Senior and co-president of intramural student council, Stone Chen, said that for the council they will ask for volunteers from those who are already participating in intramural or will ask a small number of those in NHS or key club if they would like to join and help out.
“People should join the council because it’s a great and easy way for people to get more involved with intramural and the school if they’re not already. A lot of people get really excited about Intramural so it’s awesome to be a part of the group that leads this organization. By being on the council, we are helping to bring a bigger audience for intramural. ” Chen said.
According to Chen the council is there to help improve any rules, advertise the club to get more people to join, organize the championship game, help cleaning up after games, and to ensure that all participants in Intramurals have a good experience on intramural.
Drew said that the council is usually a bigger part of Intramural during the winter when basketball starts, but now with other spring sports joining they are looking to incorporate the council with those sports as well. He said that the call out meeting for basketball will usually be around November and they will have their first couple games before then so he wants to have the council set before then.
Chen said, “I’ve enjoyed my past year on the council. Intramural is probably one of the biggest clubs at Carmel and being able to lead it is awesome. As I said, so many people get into it and behind this intramural hype culture that’s been created. It’s nice to help lead it as a council member.”
