Due to larger class sizes, larger student grading loads and disputes over inexistent teacher contracts, the Archery Club has been discontinued this year.
The 2009-2010 year has turned out to be a rough patch for former sponsor Dale Yessak. Yessak picked up an additional SRT class of 37 students this year. He also can’t sponsor Archery Club this year because of the teacher contract. Since there’s many disputes about what the contract states, Yessak and many other teachers and faculty are unable to continue sponsoring extracurricular activities.
“It’s a shame we can’t have it this year. I look forward to restart it when the student size and loads, and the disputes over the contract get resolved,” Yessak said.
The Archery Club did not compete against other schools. Instead, they held friendly matches between the archers at the end of each season.
In fact, this school was one of the only schools in Indiana that had an Archery Club. “I loved seeing younger archers building their confidence,” Yessak said.
Archery practices were held in the gym from 3:20 to 4:40, or whenever the last shooter decided to put away his last arrow.
Safety was Yessak’s number one rule during firing hours. For precaution, he held a safety briefing each meeting.
