The Classics Club is no longer meeting this year due to lack of interest from students and trouble getting the club off the ground. The club, formerly known as Latin Club, attempted to restart last year, but no members have come forward.
When sponsor Caren Rickett’s husband became ill in 2007, she couldn’t be as committed to the club as necessary and the once prominent group fell through the cracks.
“The kids who were most interested in the club have graduated, so it’s been hard to establish the club again,” Rickett said.
Also, because of the many activities offered at CHS, it has been difficult for students to fit the Classics Club into their busy schedules.
“As kids get older, it’s harder for them to make time to be in all of the activities they would like to be in,” Rickett said.
The club, whose purpose was to bring students together to participate in different Latin culture and language activities, never scheduled a call-out meeting last year either but is officially disbanded this year until students show interest in joining the club. By Rachel Boyd <[email protected]>
