The Swing Dance Club has set its big dance open to the public 6:30 to 10:30 in the evening in the Freshman Cafeteria and tickets cost $5.
“The theme is ‘speakeasy’,” sponsor Angelicka Becker said, “Come by and check it out!”
Member and junior Rhiannon Miller is part of planning the dance.
“We’ve been busy planning the dance mostly. We’ve had a few of them (members) join the dance committee so we can get some more input on themes and stuff. People seem excited,” Miller said. “You don’t have to be in the club to go.”
Aside from planning the big dance, the club has been doing well in teaching its members.
“We are learning new dances and are having fun. An average of 50 people are in attendance,” Becker said. “I am glad that they are having fun. It is good exercise, they have a sense of belonging and you get to know new people.”
“We normally have one or two new members each time. We’re a pretty big club but we’re still always looking for guys,” Miller said. “The more the merrier!” Miller and Becker encourage curious students to come by and check the club out.
Becker said, “It is a wonderful way to learn something totally new, so come on and try it!” By Blaine Herbst <[email protected]>
