On March 8, some crew members of CHTV will be taking a day off from school to go to the University of Indianapolis for the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) conference.
“There is a competition there for radio and TV that is state wide, as the name applies. Most of the competition has already taken place, and by that I mean we submit video files and audio recordings. The organization brings in a group of judges that are professionals locally who then judge the tapes and recordings. The results are not released until the day of the conference, where they have an awards ceremony program,” CHTV advisor Hal Espey said.
Senior Mark Hodges, CHTV crew member and participant in the conference, said it should be a good experience.
“To be able to participate in something like this and get professional feedback should be a really awesome thing for us,” Hodges said.
Although the majority of the judging has already taken place, Espey said there is a category where students can be judged by their live news reading abilities.
“They have to send in a tape and audition for that, there are some finalists that they choose. They then are given a news script and a few minutes to practice, and then they have to read it to the camera like a live news show. The judges judge them off of their performance, almost like in a speech class,” Espey said. By Kendall Harshberger <[email protected]>
