Twice a year, high school journalists from around the country meet at the National Scholastic Press Association conventions. Last fall, the locale was Washington, D.C., where Nick Clooney, father of George Clooney, gave the keynote speech. This spring, over 2,700 journalists congregated in Portland, OR, and participated in classes and in-depth workshops.
The NSPA also presents best of show awards to publications in various categories. This school’s yearbook, the Pinnacle, one of the largest in the country, won eighth place in 325+ page yearbooks. The HiLite Online won a Pacemaker award as well as third place best of show. The print publication won second place newsmagazine, and the Acumen, published every other month, won ninth place in newspaper special edition.
The convention will end on April 18, and will take place next fall in Kansas City.
