Students for Education, a club dedicated to helping and teaching less fortunate children in the Indianapolis area, just finished its campaign against homelessness and plans to sell a variety of goods at Houndstock.
“We will be selling glow sticks, baked goods, and ice pops at Houndstock to raise money for the kids,” Ivy Yan, club president and junior, said.
According to Yan, the club also recently finished its fundraising campaign to combat homelessness.
“Race against Homelessness, our campaign to raise money for the kids, ended in the beginning of May,” Yan said. “It was a huge success. Dayspring, the shelter we tutor at, won the categories for most money raised ($2,300) and most number of people donating. We’re really excited about it, especially since our kids get to be visited by a racecar driver.”
“I leave most of the day-to-day functions of the club to the students,” sponsor Sherri Pankratz said.
As the year wraps up, Yan said the club has done well despite difficulties.
“Unfortunately, a large part of this year was consumed by the wrangling with the activities office,” Yan said via e-mail. “Next year, we’ll try to keep within school policy but still do as much as we can for the kids.” By Henry Zhu <[email protected]>
