Math Club did not meet on Oct. 30 after school as they met that day during SRT instead. However, they will be meeting in Room A331 on Nov. 13 and will continue to do so every Wednesday after school. Math Club will also not be meeting after school this Wednesday, as the club plans to host the AMC 10/12. The club is still continuing to compete in the Arete Labs Math Madness competition as they advanced into qualifying for the Arete Labs bracket. Club sponsor Peter Beck said that during SRT, Math Club competed in the Arete Labs Math Competition.
“The students competed (during school),” Beck said. “They prepared for other contests after school but not officially. No meeting, but since Arete is a weekly thing, we met up during SRT to do that.”
The Arete Labs Math competition will continue to take place every week until the CHS club wins or gets removed from the bracket. The online competition will be held until the championship round on Dec. 14. The online aspect means the Math Club participants compete individually but score as part of a team.
Club president and junior Allison Shen said that outside of the Arete Labs Math competition, the club will be attending the Rose-Hulman Math Competition on Nov. 9.
Beck also said that the team has already been decided. According to the Rose-Hulman website, each school may enroll up to four teams for each academic class that consist of four members. Students will not be missing school, as the competition will take place on a weekend. The students will go to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 8:15 a.m. and come back at 2:15 p.m. on the bus.
“The competition is coming really soon,” Shen said. “We’ve been preparing for the Rose-Hulman Math Competition for a long time and we go every year. Our team this year is really outstanding and I’m really excited to compete again.”
