According to Sophomore Class sponsor John Love, the Sophomore Class recently sold its playhouse for $300 The Sophomore Class raised $1262.50 for the charity, Chaucie’s Place, a nonprofit child advocacy center. $167.50 was raised through the penny wars, $780 through the 5K Walk/Run and $15 through donations, according to CHS treasurer Rita Patt.

“We did really well,” Love said. “We sold our house. All the playhouses sold.”

Sophomore Class secretary Tori Doss said that she agrees Homecoming Week was fun, but there was less energy this year. “This year we felt that Homecoming had less hype because of the changes that were made,” Doss said. “We also noticed that the school was not nearly as decorated as it had been for our freshman year when each floor or department had decorating contests, so there just wasn’t the same atmosphere in the school during Homecoming that there had been the year before.”

The Sophomore Class officers recently had an officer meeting to discuss plans for the rest of the year and for the next school year.

“In our last officer meeting, we discussed how Homecoming went for the Sophomore Class,” Doss said. “We talked mostly about how we could get more students involved in the spirit days, playhouse building and the 5K Run/Walk. We also decided that we would like to continue supporting Chaucie’s Place as our Homecoming charity, and we would like to try to get more involved with (the charity) throughout the year, rather than just for Homecoming.”

Love said he agrees that the main goal of the meeting was getting more students involved in Homecoming Week. “We’re in the process of getting some committees together, really just kind of a brainstorming session on how to make Homecoming Week more successful,” Love said. “The biggest thing is that we just really want to get more students involved in the race.” By Adele Zhou
