The vocational building trades class plans to finish electrical this week. This includes running wires to power the house since the class already set up circuits for the lights.
Cory Noe, vocational building trades student and senior, said that John Coghlan, vocational building trades instructor, expected the class to finish electrical during the middle of last week. The class has been behind since the beginning of the year because the foundation crew ran behind, and Noe said it was already crunch time. However, poor weather, snow days, two-hour delays and the sheer amount of work to do put the class even more behind schedule.
Noe said he expects to work on the house site during the upcoming weekends to make up for lost time, especially if additional snow days occur. Although working on weekends is extra credit and not mandatory, the students who can come will help keep the class on schedule.
“Nothing ever goes as planned. Problems are problems. You can’t stop everything,” Noe said. “If there’s a snow day, it affects the class period. I even get annoyed by two-hour delays because that’s cutting two hours out of our schedule.”
According to Coghlan, the class will no longer have weather-related issues, such as battling freezing temperatures, once the class finishes electrical because he will hire contractor Stephe Blansette to insulate the house. By Rochelle Brual
