The Carmel Clay School Board is currently reaching the end of redistricting procedures for next school year. Phase III of the redistricting plan, during which Superintendent Jeff Swensson reviewed and approved redistricting policies and the school board took a final vote, has been completed. According to school board president Tricia Hackett, Phase IV, implementation of the plan, started with a welcome plan for elementary schools and will finish by the 2011-2012 school year.
“(Phase IV includes) grandfathering information, final projected enrollments based on this information, family orientation activities, staffing, transportation, to name a few elements,” Hackett said.
Senior Olivia Lee currently lives on the west side of Carmel, where increasing population has brought the need to balance out schools. She moved from Carmel Middle School to Creekside Middle School five years ago.
“It wasn’t a hard transition, but it was sort of inconvenient,” Lee said. “However, I understand the school district’s needs.” By Rebecca Xu <[email protected]>
