The artwork sent in by students who won the Regional Scholastic Art Competition is on display at Clowes Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
March 20 is the last day of the exhibit, and the reception for the winners is scheduled for that night. Afterwards, students may take their artwork home with them.
The art department’s newest project is the Annual Minumental display.
“A Minumental is a work of art made in a one by one inch square,” art department chairperson Jen Davis said. Every year, the Minumentals have a theme and are judged in a competition among students. This year’s Minumental theme is earth.
“It’s fun. You get to see all different types of mediums and very creative, unpractical ideas,” Davis said. Six years ago, art teacher Mrs. Bupp started the Minumental project and she is in charge of the event. Minumentals that students have created are on display outside the media center.
“It gets a lot of attention,” Davis said. “I hear from both students and faculty that this is their favorite event.” Senior Lauren Lutz said she has been in art classes all four years of her high school career and that she enjoys the Minumental competition.
“Judging (for the competition) was postponed because of the snow days,” Lutz said. “I think they are being judged this week.” By Katie Walstrom <[email protected]>
