(UPDATE: Club officers have postponed the first Share the Music Club meeting to Sept. 20 after school in Room E153.)
Share the Music Club will hold its first official meeting on Sept. 13 after school in Room E153 to hand out forms, make locker signs and discuss upcoming events as well as the general layout for performances throughout the year.
The club’s new staff supervisor is James Woomert.
“I really like the idea of the club, and I approached Mr. Han about it to see if I could take a role (in the club),” Woomert said.
Co-president and senior Shaina Pan said she is hoping for a larger turn out this year.
“This year we are trying to promote to choir people as well as band people. Whereas last year, it was mostly orchestra,” Pan said.
According to Pan, there will be two to three performances each month, mainly at nursing homes and hospitals. Members may perform solo or as a group. Music on Main Street is a new event concerning street performing in downtown Carmel. There will be fewer meetings this year due to SuperSaas, a program that allows members to sign up for events electronically.
“It’s just a really nice feeling to interact with (the audience) and know that they appreciate our music,” Pan said. “You get community service opportunities, whether that’s for your own personal benefit or if you need hours for Key Club or National Honors Society.”
“(Joining the club is) also a great way to give back to the community,” Woomert said.
