After winter break, Science Olympiad is scheduled to participate in the Northridge Invitational on Jan. 18.
Science Olympiad previously participated in the Whiting Invitational in Whiting on Dec. 14. 30 members of Science Olympiad, mostly freshmen and sophomores, competed at Whiting.
A few upperclassmen, including club president and senior Patrick Tan went to Whiting as well.
Tan said, “We’ve had like a lot of the older members mentor the younger members.”
Science Olympiad left the school at 4:40 a.m. so members could arrive at the competition with extra time to practice for their events.
Science Olympiad sponsor Cynthia Henry traveled with the group to Whiting and ran the event Chemistry Lab.
“I had to supervise,” Henry said. “I wasn’t around to see the competition.”
One of the two Science Olympiad teams earned second place in the junior varsity division, and the other team earned sixth place in the varsity division.
