On Thursday Sept. 22 the Carmel men’s soccer team takes on rival Cathedral at home. The Greyhounds have won three games in a row including a win over number one ranked North Central. Although Carmel is undefeated so far this season, head coach Shane Schmidt isn’t overlooking the game on Thursday.
“Cathedral has been improving the last few years,” Schmidt said. “As a team we have to be prepared for every game. Since we are Carmel, every team will bring their best against us.”
The game will start at 7 p.m. at Murray Stadium. Goalie and junior Eric Dick also agrees to not overlook this game.
“So far this year we have been fortunate to stay undefeated,” Dick said. “We can’t take that for granted and need to continue working hard if we want to stay that way.”
In less than two weeks after the game on Thursday, Carmel begins their run to the State Title with their first Sectional. The team they face has yet to be decided but takes place in Lebanon. Schmidt says it is not too early for the team to prepare.
“It is never too early to prepare for the biggest tournament of the season,” Schmidt said. “This year it is our goal to make it out of sectionals and ultimately win the State Championship in October.”
The State Championship will take place Oct. 29 at Kuntz Stadium.
