On Sunday, members of the women’s cross-country placed first overall in the Nike Cross Regional Midwest race held in Terre Haute, IN at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course. The meet brings teams from all around the midwest to compete for a chance to advance to the national meet in Portland, OR. The top two teams from each regional meet advance to Oregon, meaning the Greyhounds will have the opportunity to compete in the Nike Cross National meet.
Seniors Renee Wellman and Sarah Bennett finished eighth and 12th respectively, helping to lead the Greyhounds to their first place finish.
Last year, the team finished seventh in the national meet, and they look to improve that result this year.
“Our goal from the beginning of the year was to win state, advance to nationals, and then do better than seventh in nationals,” Bennett said. “Now we only have one of those goals left to accomplish.”
The Nike Cross National meet will take place on Dec. 3.
