A little after 5 p.m., on June 8, 2009, another Greyhound life was lost. An automobile accident occurring outside of Central Park near 111th Street left 16-year-old Lilly Martyn, who completed her sophomore year at Carmel High School last May, dead on the scene. Her companion, junior Sara Davis suffered serious injuries. A third passenger, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School senior Casey Trotter, survived with non-life threatening injuries. Both Davis and Trotter were air-lifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
According to several reports, Martyn, who was driving the car, veered off-road and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip. All three passengers were ejected from the SUV, which authorities determined was a result of the three teenagers’ failure to wear seat belts. The Indy Channel’s Web site stated that the vehicle then landed on Martyn, resulting in traumatic blows to the head and instant death.
Both Davis and Trotter are now in stable condition.
