Astronomy Club won the opportunity to research globular functions using the WIYN 0.9-m telescope located in Arizona. The telescope is located at the National Science Foundation Kitt Peak National Observatory, 56 miles southwest of Tucson, but is operated remotely at IU and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Astronomy Club is scheduled to travel to IU from Sept. 25 to Sept. 27.
Club president and senior Meera Chander said, “We always want to interact more in the community.”
The club offers planetarium shows for the public each month. Chander said, “It’s up to us to think of new and innovative ways to use the planetarium.” The club also hopes to hold day camps this year.
Junior Calvin Summers joined Astronomy Club second semester last year. He said, “I like learning about the universe in general.”
More information about Astronomy Club can be found on sponsor Keith Turner’s Web site http://www.ccs.k12.in.us/chsES/Turner/.
Chander and Summers both encourage anyone interested in joining Astronomy Club to contact Turner.
