On Sept. 23, members from the Principal’s Advisory Committee (PAC) and leaders from the school will travel to Lawrence North High School to attend a leadership seminar.
The conference is sponsored by the Mid-Indiana Conference (MIC), which is composed of high schools from four Indiana counties and brings them together for other athletic and academic conferences also.
Though this is not the first year Carmel has attended, it is the first year the topic “Green Ideas” serves as the theme.
Principal John Williams said, “The purpose of this conference is not to come up with a big plan to implement (at Carmel). If that happens, then that’s great.”
Williams also chose students who are concerned about the environment to attend.
Student body president Steven Brisley, who also serves as the president of the PAC, said he looks forward to interacting with other student leaders. He said he also anticipates learning “innovative ways to cut down energy consumption.”
Currently, the school shuts off lights and computers after school hours and also lowers the air conditioning and heating when unnecessary.
